My ignition solenoids (come off the plug wires) are getting hot, only one at a time, and they alternate sides - one day the right is hot, the next the left is hot. 1983 GS450. Any suggestions?

There is only one solenoid on your bike, it's between the battery and the starter.
It's called the "starter solenoid".
The two items to which I think you are reffering are called "coils".
They get warm when current goes through them, which happens whenever the ignition key is turned ON. Turn key ON, press starter button, ride. Coils will get warm from current flowing through them and the fact that they sit just inches above a hot engine.
When you are done riding, be sure to turn key OFF. Engine and coils will eventually cool down.
