    Weak spark and no spark

    My 86 gs550 has no spark from one coil and what appears to be weak spark from the other coil,can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to test the coils with a non digital ohm meter?please thanks in advance

    But digital ones are cheap (less than $20) and more informative! do you still have 8 track tapes?
    Anyways, remove your gas tank to get at ignition coils. Each coil has two spade connectors, disconnect wires and check resistance across the coil terminals ( it's likely about 4 ohms- does your analog meter read this low?). Compare the readings on each coil-they should be similar. Coils seldom fail but suzuki wiring is suspect. Head to this link from Basscliff for some good tips on ignition testing

      Thanks for the link BTW i broke down and bought a new digital meter at walmart 17.95 welcome to 2013 lol

        Just went thru this and it turned out the battery box was gunked up. Took back off and cleaned inside and shined up the fuse holders and immediately solved the problem. See my No power to starter selinoid thread.

        I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.
