Newtronic and coil trouble -77 gs750

We have restored a 77 gs 750, the bike ran before restoration. Noe we have connected the Newtronic ignition again, but one of the coil is getting really hot with the ignition on. What could be the problem? First start attempt we tried the coils from a -98 gsxr600, they got really hot and one of them fried in the attempt of 30 mins. Now we have switched back to the old coils and now one of them gets hot. Ideas?

You might try getting ahold of spec II. Gary (I think his name is) is or was a distributor for the newtronic ignitions and still sells coils that are compatible with the ignition. Spec II can be reached at 818-837-1313 Good luck, Paul
