DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Heres my situation Its 81 gs850g I had a headlight fuse blow,i changed it a few days later it did it again, so I chased the wires nd found 3 that had gotten pinched in the neck I repaired the wires and now the main fuse blows when I turn the key on ,is it possible I damaged the r/r or is there something else I could check I went thru all the wires there all good I luv this bike and it has never given me any trouble thanks

A loyal zooki rider.

Well, it's giving you trouble now! If you leave headlight fuse out, and turn ignition on,does main fuse still blow ? let's go from there

This guy has small amounts of info on suzuki's including readable wiring diagrams

EDit; main fuse is 15 amp, others are 10 amp, right???

yes it still blows it blows like in 5 sec of turning key on

disconnect R/R from harness- probably a plug connector- might have to look at those wiring diagrams to find connector. once disconnected, see if main fuse still blows

On my 650, the headlight fuse also feeds the taillight, license light and instrument lighting so there are plenty of places to check if and when you rule out the R/R as culprit.

what does it usually take to blow and r/r ? like I stated it never had any problem im just wondering could a shorted out wire fry one? and yes its still the one that came with the bike

The R/R is always connected to battery-it goes thru main fuse to reach battery- its internal diodes block current from flowing incorrectly. If your charging system malfunctions, it can damage the R/R. But 30 yearold suzuki wiring is also suspect.

ok can u post a link to a replacement r/r for the gs thanks for your info I guess a cut wire could fry the diode im not md it for 30yrs old it server well lol

You've had this thing for 30 years?

Honestly, it's wise to test things out and not leap to buying stuff. Did disconnecting R/R keep main fuse from blowing?
A failed R/R can damage a stator (that gizmo that actually makes electricity), so it needs to be checked out or you will visit Cape Disappointment.

Charging problems are real common on these critters- head to that link I posted.

ive had it for about 10yrs I was gonna save the link after I tested and rechecked everything ive had both covers off and the tank and the only wires that were damaged were the pinched ones I would just like to have the link incase it is it I love this bike ive taught 2 of my sons how to ride using this bike she will never leave me lol thnks again

I'll offer a clue to a new R/R should you decide to buy one, SH-775; ignore internet fantasies, this is sorta new one and it's inexpensive from a proven maunfacturer.

While you're sleuthing, note that on wiring diagram from that link I posted, one stator output runs up to headlight switch and back to R/R - best to eliminate this factory feature as it is problem . The 3 stator leads need to go direct to R/R. Best to review entire charging system to look for potential flaws- a little work and you'll have a reliable charging system.

woohoo

woohoo

first off to Tom and all on this site for keeping the gs going thanks for the help I found the problem, it wasn't the r/r after closer inspection when I cut the boot back enough to see in it farther lo and behold 2 more wires had scorched spot so new bullet connecters on them and some heat shrink and vroom she roared back to life with no fuse pop the original r/r still lives! god must have luved gs to

keep the rubber side down
