Jeez why didn't I think of that when I had my Kat? Funny story on that one. I was looking for a GS1000 winter project when the basket case Kat was offered to me really cheap. No 1000 was forthcoming so I took it on. Easy enough project once I freed up the engine (bike had been sitting for more than 10 years) and it came together. But when I had it more or less finished I realised it was no good for me as I felt it was the most uncomfortable thing I had ever sat on. My back and neck were in agony after about 10 minutes.
I had a spare set of clip-ons for that one too now why didn't I think of apehangers back then

Yes keeping the welder current return path short is important, but I would not rely solely on that when nothing electronic on the bike has been designed to deal with anything an arch welder is capable of producing.
