Run on starter, key off, kill switch engaged.......

First sunny day today in 7 months.
First day to ride the EZ, second warm up of the month, 15 th of the year.
2 second start every time. Never any issues.
(I know, you can call me a fair weather rider, today. If you are so inclined, once you get off your high hobby horse, check out my post on visiting Prudhoe Bay on a GS. Ok, back to today's adventure........)
Started the GS 1100EZ, good warm up, shut down to put on my riding togs.
All is right and normal, bike is quiet and warm.
Start up again normal, away we go. Ahhhhhhhh
Made the 4 mile run to the petrol depot, key off..........
Starter is turning over with key off like a crying puppy with engine stopped!?!?!?
Key on, engine starts up, cannot hear starter?!?
Kill switch off, key off, starter grinding away, engine shut down.
Restart, kill engine, repeatedly pushed starter button, starter happily grinding away, no change, even rapped the right side switch handle at time or two.
    No gas for you!
Left for my home garage, same thing at home, starter grinds away like a peanut vendor?!?!?
My side covers are cleanly drilled and zip tied with fuses behind the buggers.
Gyrations of extra key from wife, bike purring happily away, unlock seat, clip zip ties, all fuses pulled..........starter grinds away for 30-40 seconds.
Then stops for 10 seconds, grinds another few seconds (bike does not start up of course, no key on, kill switch on off) and then the goofy starter stops.
All is quiet, no electrical smells,
Will approach with caution in the am.
Thinking start button disassembly, grounded starter relay, exorcism....
    Before I do......
    Thoughts?

Your starter relay contacts have welded themselves together.

Look carefully at solenoid trigger wire ( the little guy that comes from starter button) check that it isn't rubbing against the big "hot" wire coming from battery positive.

Just a thought, but would disconnecting the ignition wires and then shorting the solenoid with a screw driver narrow things down a bit ?

Take the selinoid off and go to Tractor Supply with it..They have many styles and theres probably one there for around 8 bucks. Many here have also said they get them in the garden tractor supply at Lowes and Home Depot.

Smack it with wrench a few good taps to see if it disengages.

Been there. Tractor Supply stocks a solenoid thats a perfect match, even the mounting holes line up. heheh About $8.

Solved with precision GSR consultants. She is ALIVE!!!!

The solenoid was the culprit, having owned several Chevy 350's with overheated starter solenoids. Always fun to beat the stuffing out of a starter solenoid under a 83 Suburban while trying to board a ferry.
Gave a crack with a 19mm wrench on the GS solenoid the next morning and PRESTO!
I will replenish the NOS solenoid I used as replacement after that event yesterday from my supply bin, tractor supply at 8$ is blindingly cheap!
                  Thank you all again.

There is a Tractor Supply about 20 miles toward civilization (Seattle:Mariners, Seahawks, microbrews in Ballard) from my place. Civilization is about 3 hours away (floating bridges, ferries, traffic).
                      I would start here :http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/...searchSource=Q
                      And hopefully find a match.
My son lives in your fair city now, his GS750ES still here, at home.
He is still amazed that transportation related resources are so limited.
