    Can anyone identify this Reg/Rec?

    I am currently working on getting a 1982 GS1100G up and running again. It came with this reg/rectifier already on the bike attached to a custom bracket. It has no markings of any kind. It is 3 1/8" by 3 1/8" in size. And hard wired right into the wiring harness with a separate ground wire. Any help would be appreciated so I know what I'm working with here.

    The second picture shows it mounted on its bracket.It's nice and big and the way it's mounted below the side cover so it's out in the wind to stay cool leads me to believe the PO kind of knew what he was doing and hopefully bought an upgraded reg/rectifier...?

    The first picture shows the back of it, off the bracket and how it's been wired into the wiring harness.

      Looks like a good setup, but running and testing it will tell. I seriously doubt it is a series R/R so all the associated problems of a shunt type R/R will still remain. I would get it running, test it and use it until you can replace it with a Compu-Fire or a SH-775 series R/R. There is not a lot to choose from in the series units, but they are the only real upgrades available.

        Thanks for the replies. I was hoping beyond hope that maybe I had a series R/R here. I'm not that knowledgeable on what a series R/R looks like, therefore the posting here. Most of the R/R's I've dealt with were a lot smaller than this one so I was hoping....maybe?....could I actually get lucky here..?...

        I still have a little ways to go before she's finished up and running so I may just look for a better R/R in the mean time.

          Some of the shunt R/R's were pretty good, it's all that was available until relatively recently. I would just advise to move to the series design eventually. They shut off when charging is not needed where the Shunt type is either charging or shunting through the stator, dogging it 24/7 by design.
