    Not charging, stator problem

Hi guys working on a 83 gs750es. Bough the bike half assembled. It runs, doesnt charge.
    Did the testing using http://www.thegsresources.com/garage/gs_statorfault.htm

When I ohm the stator wires I get 1.3 ohms, (on all three) when I run the bike and check for ac voltage, its kind of boucing all over, but generally doesnt show any. No shorts to ground.
I am thinking it is a stator problem.

I have a spare engine that came with the bike. I ohm'd the stator on that one and I am getting the same 1.3 results.

Where are you guys buying stators from? I'm in Canada.

When I ohm the stator wires I get 0.00 ohms, which I find weird (on all three) when I run the bike and check for ac voltage, its kind of boucing all over, but generally doesnt show any. No shorts to ground.

Please help us out. Do the "Quick Test" first and report the results.

I had the meter on the wrong setting ... stator resistance is at 1.3ohms

New battery installed.. I've been charging it as I've been testing...

I pulled the stator cover off... I'm going to reassemble it tomorrow and do more tests.

I'll post quick test results then.

You see one of the main reason for the Quick Test is that you only need to attach the VOM to the battery and you should be starting at close to 12V so most people can get all that figured out pretty much at the git go.

From there it is just about writing the numbers down as you go along.

In the past there have been innumerable posts about electrical system diagnosis questions and the worst ones being those trying figuring out those stators.

If you have the cover off, take a quick picture so we can see. If it is burned you might just consider replacing it, but it all has to do with how burnt the insulation is.

Best to do and report "Quick Test" results- helps us and helps you understand what's happenning. Buying stuff comes later!

            Fixed

Ended up being a Stator issue. I never did the quick test. When I had the stator off I noticed half of it looked burnt..
            It all ohm'd ok.

I swapped the stator for the other engine I have and all seems to be ok. around 13.5v at idle now.

Well I don't think you are done.

Do the Quick Test now to look for other problems.

After that and those are fixed your will go to the Revised Phase A to do a final confirmation of proper charging (checking the voltage drops).

                Its slightly low...
                1. 12.5
                2. 12.3
                3 13.2
                4. 13.2
                5. 13.6
                6 12.7

I had done voltage drop tests from the r/r to the battery ground/battery positive
was running 0.2v which is probably abit higher than it should be

Those should be run at 5000 RPM as per the Revised Phase A. If you did not do that then expect them to climb. Probably 0.5V .

You are correct you are slightly charging but only above at and above 2500 and then just barely
