    79 GS550L Points Continuity

I'm in the process of replacing the points on my 79 GS550L. I have set the gaps to .014 per the Clymers manual. However, when I try to set timing with the continuity method, the points have continuity to ground whether open or closed. I believe I have narrowed it down to the black and white wires circled in the picture below. Should these wires have continuity to ground?
    Am I doing something wrong?

Disconnect them from the coils...right at the coils is easy..
you are reading the coil ohms while doing it your way..always DISCONNECT the thing being measured for ohms..
