Let's hope member tkent02 doesn't hear about this!

Facing points plate, the set at rear fires the left coil ( #1 and #4 plugs). That diagram is probably real close, but the electronic ignitions probably had different colors, BUT I'm unsure.

Can't tell ya what the PO did with this bike. looks like it was in an accident or something. L forks and seat, but E stamped on the frame. Gonna look at the engine when I get home to see what that says. lol. So bike cliffs has a 79 gs850 diagram that looks right on. I just gotta get the time to get back at it tomorrow.

Ohhh cusssss! I just went back with the multimeter to check the fuses again, and low and behold the only one that looked good visually last time was actually inconspicuously burnt out... Unreal! I will get all new fuses tomorrow and see if that's all it was. Wow rookie mistake! Who knew fuses could deceive the naked eye. Hahaha

Fuses don't like L seats either. They will keep blowing inconspicuously until you lose that seat. Fuses do think the L forks are OK though.

Life is too short to ride an L.

That seat is long gone. This bike is a cafe now. But why do the fuses blowout with an L seat?

Yes, fuses can trick you with their looks, so just replace and carry spares. Raid your parents/grandparents tool boxes for old fashioned made-in- USA fuses.

Tom is just blowing you smoke. He is an avid L hater and plainly states it wherever possible. Replace all the fuses with quality fuses and retest.

my L has an E stamped frame which makes sense as L is a "limited edition" version of the standard machine

Ugh! New fuses didn't work! The PO had two 10A fuses and two 30A fuses. Haynes says all 10A except for one 15A. Could that have affected any of the bikes electrical components?
