We thought 20v was low too. Just got back from getting the new battery. We're going to go over it again.

Just curious... was the stator you purchased on ebay new or used?

New, bought it last year. But haven't gotten it to work yet.

Where are you at? Might want to add your location. You should be closer to 60 volts if i remember correctly. You might have gotten a bad part.

Sounds like a bad stator. As to grounds, I personally line to make up a little ground harness with ring terminals to connect the ground bolt on the solenoid (where the R/R is usually grounded) to the battery, and to the frame at the front battery box connection. I have seen this cure voltage drop more than once. Have to start with a good stator though.
