Swap gs750 R/R unit for original GS1000 unit?

My 78 has separate regulator and rectifier units. I can't afford the SH775 right now, but someone nearby has a R/R unit from a GS750e for $25. Can someone tell me please if this is a clean swap?
    Thanks much,
    Adam in Portland

PS. Polaris of Portland says they have the sh775 in stock, for Polaris Ranger 500, at $139.50. This sounds a little steep. Where else would you recommend I go for it?

It will probably work. Try these guys, your dealer is way high they advertise $70.41 and I see some a little cheaper. Search Polaris part 4012941. http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detai...P-4012941.html

Thanks -- that helps. Local dealer would sell it for $81.00 it turns out. I'm going to to that way. I should have it to install by next weekend.

Good choice. Make sure you eliminate the stator loop that goes through the light switch and wire the stator directly to the SH775. With your split rectifier and regulator it looks like you have five wires coming from the stator. Two yellow, two white/blue and a white/green. You will be using one yellow, one white/blue and one white/green with the SH775. The other two can be taped back and abandoned. These remaining three go directly to the three stator connections on the SH775. It doesn't matter which yellow or white/blue you use they are the same wire as the other of the same color and there is no particular order when attaching them to the SH775. The white/green is the wire that goes to the light switch and returns on a white/red wire. Just unplug them and plug them together to get them out of the way. Attach the positive terminal of the SH775 to the red wire that was feeding the old system, and you can run the negative directly to the battery. You will want to make sure of + and - on the SH775 unless you get a plug set for it. There is a lot of information about it on this site. Good luck.
