    Ooops

Can I assume that the washer located on the magnet should not be there, can I also assume that this was the reason my stator went kaupt?

Yes I being serious, I am just making sure I am not going to pull something out that should be there.

    Your assumption is correct.

Next problem: where did it come from ?

What bike? I may have a freshly-rewound stator for you.

I thought it was "kaput" - I'd start wondering where that washer came from! maybe others are lurking. Does your stator still have a metal holdown holding wires tight against stator cover (on inside ) ?

Edit; I've got to stop following Steve around here.

        It's a 77 gs750 in my 78.

I polished my covers a month ago and can only assume (hope) that something fell on the magnet.

My hope is that it didn't hurt that magnet basket thing (yeah that's the technical name I have given that part) to bad.

So you say you may have a stator, go on.......

Then you probably got a 12 pole stator. might take more time

That really looks like a thrust shim for the starter idler gear. There should be one of those on either side of that gear (the one that falls out when you remove the stator cover).

OK, you have an earlier 12-pole stator. Unfortunately, I don't have one of them in stock (yet), so might have to look into getting one (or two).

I have a used stator from a 1977 750 if you are interested. I have the magnet basket thing too if you need it, and most any other 750 engine parts.

That's probably what it is, there isn't shims there now so I assume you're right.

Starter works without them so probably won't use it.

Seeing as how I apparently was using it wrong the first time anyways

My Google searches of this part aren't working.
