Dyna S for 81 GS650 E

I just purchased a 1981 GS650. Replacing bad stator, reg/rec, also considering a DynaS ignition w/ Dynatek 3 ohm coils. Has anyone been there? I called Dynatek and the tech was pretty sure it would work even though they don't list the 650 with the other bikes. I believe the correct part # isDS3-2. Any help appreciated.

Sure you can spend money and upgrade your ignition system, but why not hold off till/if you get it running- might be other stuff you need ASAP. The stock system works fine (provided the ignitor hasn't been smoked).
Charging system will require more than just new stuff- you got some work ahead of you. Don't buy a R/R till you read this link

Im purchasing a Dyna S for my 82 GS650E. After troubleshooting a no spark in 1 and 4, I finally traced the problem to the igniter. A lot of guys on this forum will recommend Z1Enterprises.com, and after talking with them, so will I. Turns out the 80,81,82 550's used the same igniter(maybe other electrical components as well). Z1 was especially helpful. Give those guys a call and they should be ablet o walk you through it. Good Luck
