    So, any help here?

Under the right hand side cover, above the rear master cylinder, hangs what looks to be a relay of some kind, with 7 wires coming off. 6 on the plug and one more independent. This is an 81 850G. The wires have at one time gotten pretty hot. The outer sheath is partially cooked, and the independent wire burned it's insulation some. That wire is black with white stripe. The problem seemed to be only in the middle of the harness they run thru. I'm guessing that wire is a ground, and a lousy ground elsewhere tried to make this one do and overheated it. I've cleaned up the mess, was wondering if anyone can tell me what part of the system this thing is?

Sounds like the turn signal flasher controller.
