First of all, congratulate yourself on recognizing it as a "low battery water light".
Many guys think it's a "charging light" and assume something is wrong with the charging system.
Yes, you apply a voltage to it to get it to turn off. The way it works is that with the proper amount of water in that cell, it would see about half of the system voltage and turn the light off. If the water (electrolyte) level went down, it would not 'see' the voltage and warn you of low water level. The biggest problem with that system is that all the cells don't necessarily go down evenly. With my luck, that cell would still be full while all the others were bone-dry.

Leave it on. It's not harming anything.1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

never had a problem doing this as far as battery drain but if are concerned just run it to a switch 12v. power source.

Just bought my '81 1100e last Sunday, and I too have the battery water light staying on. Battery is a new non-sensor battery. My question is what color wire is the one for the sensor? My bike has 4 wires with bullet connectors all in that area not connected naturally the wiring diagram in my Clymer manual is pretty useless. I have a hunch that its the Blue/green wire with a male bullet connector on the bike side of the harness.
