    rewire/clean up help

Ok guys, got a new stator and regulator/rectifier for my bike. Got digging deeper into the wiring, found there was 2 regulators wired up lol. A regulator/rectifier and the original regulator were wired in parallel with each other. Could this have been the problem with my battery not charging? Next question, the wiring diagram shows the one wire of the stator going through the switch then back to the regulator/rectifier, is this necessary and should the red wire off the regulator/rectifier be fused?

I think I am going to start a personal policy of not offering any help until YOU TELL US WHAT BIKE YOU ARE WORKING ON.

    Yes, it really does matter.

Where did USer CP stuff go?
Anyways, bike must be 78 gs1000- sounds like separate rectifier and regulator. OP needs some reading before tearing into harness

OK, now that we know what we are talking about, ...

Are you SURE that you had two "regulators" wired in? I ask that because in the earlier systems like yours, there were, indeed, two separate items. The three wires that come from the stator head to the Rectifier, which looks a lot like a later Rectifier/Regulator (R/R). Before the wires get to the Rectifier, ONE of the leads is also connected to a Regulator. That Regulator will intermittantly shunt that one lead's output to ground to reduce the total output.

The recommendation currently (pardon the pun) is to replace BOTH of those units with a series-type R/R. The popular choice right now seems to be a Polaris unit, which will cost about $80 shipped.

Does the red output wire need to be fused? In the stock wiring harness, I believe it is, but it's not real apparent. There is a fuse between the output of the Rectifier and the battery, which is really all it needs.

For the area that used to be called "User CP", look in the upper-right corner for the word "Settings" and click on it.

Ok went through the stator papers again and found my problem, had to rewire the positive side between the battery and the rr. Next question would be my voltage on the battery is hovering between 14.0 and 14.3 no matter what the rpm is, is this normal?

As long as the voltage goes down at least a little bit when the RPM = ZERO, you are looking great.

At idle it bounces between 13.5 and 14.0/14.3, but mostly around the 14.0 point.

Congratulations, you now have a good charging system.
