    Shift light bulbs and headlight

    Howdy,
So I've finally managed to get my son's 79' gs425 going with a new set of coils. I thought it was odd that both coils were bad, until I checked the charging system. 17.5V is where I shut it down, so I suppose that's why. The high voltage has apparently took out several bulbs. The indicator bulbs I got figured out (#53's). The gear indicator bulbs are a different story. Tried auto parts store, radioshack, and the interwebs (and yes, I searched here). The only place I've actually seen them, is on a British site (I don't recall the name of it) but am leery about money transactions over seas. Anyone know where to find these stateside? How about the headlight bulb? Is it possible to just buy a 7" for a car?

    thanks!

Not sure about the headlight, but I don't think it is a 7" automotive unit.
I am thinking it's more like 6" in diameter.

About the indicator lights, what do they look like?
Either post a VERY good verbal description or a picture.
I might be able to help you on that.

Well, been trying to upload pics via phone, and that ain't working...

Bulb is like a regular instrument bulb. There's no metal shell, it's just glass. The glass portion is about 3/8" long, and it has 2 wires coming out of it that are about 1/4" long. The diameter of the bulb is about 1/8".
Found these measurement on here somewhere that were deemed 'close enough' : 12V 35mA Mini Lamp 0.20"/5mm Dia.

      thanks!

Pictures work best if they are hosted and linked to, can not attach them directly.

i think those bulbs might still be available at Radio Shack, I will have to find the part number for you.

I looked at RadioShack, although it wasn't the most stocked store I've seen...part number would be awesome tho! I appreciate it, sir!

They are "spendy" because that includes the little plastic block, too.

All SIX of them eh? A wise person would notice that in the column for how many are required, it lists 6.

OP, just listen to Mr. know-it-all and find them everywhere.

For the headlight bulbs you should purchase a motorcycle bulb. Apparently the automotive bulbs are not made the same. I recently read somewhere that they are not made to withstand the vibration and shock that a motorcycle endures. I guess you pay for what you get.

Suspect that only applies to incandescent with a filament. The led are more Robust and probably do not have the same issue.

That is a great picture of the entire assembly, but if you straighten out the wires at the bottom
(the upper-right corner in the picture), you can slide the bulb out.

THAT is the part that you can get at Radio Shack.

                          "12V micro lamp. 60mA. Set of 2. "

(Radio shack has morphed to "The Source" in Canada) Better stock up because I bet these will disappear soon.
