    81' 1100EX charging problem?

I recently purchased this bike and found it wasn't charging and found some melted and black connectors to the stator leads. Testing shows the stator passes the test but not the resistance tests to the R/R. My question is will the SH775 fit this model and how is it wired in? I'm assuming that the 3 pin connector is in any order to the three stator leads but what about the two pin connector. If it fits I'd like to get the TS2500676 harness also. Can someone give me some links as to wiring and is there a source that has both the R/R and the harness for a reasonable price?

    Thanks, Pat

For sourcing the SH-775 (Polaris part number 4012941) go here for typical pricing. Also try a local Polaris dealer ,cuz he might cut price to make sale.

make sure you read this if you haven't already - understand that the SH-775 is not a cure-all

I recently did this on my '80 GS1100 and I'm pretty sure I just wired it how the factory wiring was. The 3 stator wires went to the same connections as stock. The two pin connector is just a ground and battery if I recall correctly and I just used the stock connections. I moved the rectifier to where the igniter was and put the igniter where the rectifier was. I think I may have had to drill one hole for mounting.

hopefully, you read the link below, cuz you do not want the factory setup where one stator loop ran up to headlight switch- did you upgrade to the SH-775? Or another r/r?

          tom203,

I still haven't found a link that shows how to wire up the SH-775 to my GS. Do you have a link that shows the proper wiring diagram for this replacement R/R?

          thanks, Pat

There is nothing unique about the sh775 with respect to wiring. You should hook it up the same as any 5 wire r/r. The link provided applies to 5 and 6 wire units and any of those units that has double wires.

As posplayr mentioned, there is nothing 'special' about wiring in an SH-775.

When you remove your stock R/R, two of the three wires will probably be connected to the stator. The third wire disappears up through the harness, then returns back to the stator. Remove that useless loop, connect all three stator wires directly to the three input terminals on the new R/R. Connect the + terminal of your new R/R to the red wire in the stock location, connect the - terminal of your new R/R to a chassis ground, battery ground or, if you have one, your "single-point ground".

When I say "connect the stator wires directly to the R/R", that does not mean that you can not put a short harness in there so you can disconnect later, if necessary. What is meant is to bypass that useless loop on the third stator leg.

Thanks for the replies. I've got a SH775 and a TS2500676 on order from 2wheelpro and should receive it within a week or so. Looking at pictures of the R/R it appears to have a two female plugs on it, one on the L/H side with two terminals and one on the R/H side with three. From left to right looking into the plugs I'm trying to figure out if the proper wiring terminal hookup from left to right (1-5) looking into the plug ins. Is it 1-ground., 2- power in the L/H plug, 3-5 stator leads in R/H plug? I don't have the R/R in hand to see if the terminals are marked on the body as to their orientation and don't want to hookup the wiring incorrectly.

                thanks, Pat

Brown (2 wire plug) is 12v +, black ground, the three wire plug directly to the stator leads no particular order.

Yep, running the SH-775 with the Triumph connector, wired as stock. No issues, unless having a fully charged battery is an issue.

The group of three is obviously the stator input. The only order they need to be in is "random" (it does not matter).

In the group of two, the one closer to the stator inputs is the Positive output wire, the one farther away is the Negative.
