    81 GS650E coils

So after looking around and searching for about two days, I am having trouble finding whether there is a Dyna S ignition compatible with my bike or whether I can just use 3.0 ohm coils on my stock ignition system.

    Thank you

Z1 used to list the dyna s ignition for the 650, but now I can't find it . Bunch of folks have gone this route since this model had mechanical advancer which the dyna needs. The stock coils are 4 ohm, your 3 ohm coils will make the stock ignitor work a little harder- not sure if this is a problem. What was wrong with the stock coils?

3-4-5 ohm coils work -if you use dyna coils use dyna wires and non resistor plugs- dyna S works single magnet trigger on your stock advancer. use a 4 post relay and 10 GA wire from battery to the coils - run dyna power from a coil positive.

the dynatek DS3-2 fits 550-650-750-850-1000-1100-1150 -- just set timing on both 1-4 /AND/ 2-3 before getting frustrated - sometimes they are a few degrees off on backing plate from the mfg..

The boot on cylinder #1 spark plug has come detached, and likes to lose contact mid left turn. I was just looking into either finding replacement boots with very little luck. I want to eventually go with new coil and I hear if you run a .75-1.00 ohm balest resister on the constant it won't make the bike work as hard. For right now though if I could just fix the boot I would be happy with that.

So I just found the how to in replacing the spark plug boots, which is awesome. Just wondering what the boot sizes are now.

That spark plug is not your problem. So you trimmed back each plug wire about 1/4 inch and reinstalled boots (or just get new ones about $5 each) ? Maybe one plug wire is detached/loose at that coil and fooling you.
i recall seeing a set of coils off a 650 on eBay for about $25 or so recently -these coils are durable, but maybe yours got manhandled.

Yes I cut about 1/4 inch off the wire since the boot on there was new, still had the receipt from the owner. I just changed the spark plugs cause i like to know how old they are.
                Thank you

I have the stock ignition in place with the dyna 3.0 ohm coils and and the diy ignitor and the bike ran fantasticly until i took her off the road for the season.
