Turn signal question
I just picked up an 83 GS 750 E and the turn signals don't flash, and the right front stays on all the time. When I work the switch, the other 3 lights work, they just don't flash. Thinking it's the flasher relay but can't find it. Is it under the tank somewhere?
Thanks for the help!Tags: None

Sounds like some fun is in order. Are you saying that the right front light is on any time the ignition key is ON? Does your bike have running lights built in to the front signals? In other words, when you turn the key ON, does the left front light come on, but at a lower intensity? If that is the case, it's possible that the wires for the right front light are switched, and the one that is supposed to be powering the running light is actually running the signal filament.
If that is the case, that would explain why the right-side signals would not flash, as there is not enough current being drawn to activate the stock thermal flasher. They are picky enough that they need to see the current draw from two bulbs to work correctly.
That would not explain why the left side does not flash, though. Check the wiring on the right side, then we can work through the left side.

I had a similar situation when replacing a front turn signal earlier this year. The turn signal would come on but not flash. After trial and error it turned out to be a faulty ground in the new turn signal. Worth looking at.

Correct Steve...right is on steady whenever ignition is on. But as I just bought the bike, I don't know if it did/does have front running lights. Left doesn't come on at all...it only lights when you turn the left signal on, but it doesn't flash. Let me try switching the wires a bit as well as cleaning the contact on the flasher and I'll let you know. Thanks for your help.

Do you have a shop manual? Based upon the questions you post here, I'm guessing you don't.
If you're going to be fixing up a 30 year old vehicle, you need a shop manual. Download one here:

I do have one but the digital version is great, thanks. I found the problem....previous owner must have done some work and right front turn signal was connected to what appears to be an extra set of lead...possibly for an auxiliary lighter or something. I found the correct lead and now the signal doesn't stay on all the time. None of them flash however, so I'll try replacing the flasher tomorrow and I hope that'll do it!

Turn signals are working!
Rewired the miswired lamp and replaced a defect flasher with an automotive unit and all is well!
Thanks for the tips!
