Thats a seal for around one of the wires coming from either the ignition or stator side. Look at a schematic for your bikes electrical to see where it goes. Try Partsoutlaw or Alpha Sports for the fiches.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
1978 GS 1000 E, 1979 GS 1000 S, 1973 Yamaha TX 750, 1977 Kawasaki KZ 650B1, 1975 Honda GL1000 Goldwing, 1983 CB 650SC Nighthawk, 1972 Honda CB 350K4, 74 Honda CB550

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

No size reference.
No bike reference.
Really hard to say.
Please, either mention your bike in EVERY post or just generate a quick signature that does it for you.
And, while you are at it, update your profile to show your location. One of us might be close enough to help.

The part's not vital, you could easily use the one you have. Heck you can't even see it when it's on the bike.Rob

Load the groove with black RTV and add some across the top just slightly higher than the rim and place the lid on. Sealed good enough at that point.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Yes..as in the groove in the rubber part to effect a better seal. Its there to seal against road slop and dirt getting past it and it IS IMPORTANT!!! And old rubber shrinks and the original seal is now broken..so a little RTV in the groove in the plugs edge before reinserting it makes very good sense and takes up gaps from the part being looser now.
Why would you think I meant throw the plug away and RTV the space shut???? Thats not what i meant at all!!!MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
