1980 gsx 750 electrical shutdown!

hi all,was away for first decent trip up glencoe in Scotland...beautiful!had various issues,this one was particularly strange,switched on ignition,hit starter and everything died.no power anywhere. automatically thought fuse, checked fuse box,all seem ok, checked battery,was connected ok,ended up jiggling wiring,son was turning fuses at same time, and power came back on...of course now we don't know if it was wires or fuses!the fuses are the glass type, is there another, stronger type of fuse I can replace them with, and anyone got a link to which fuse is for what?! appreciated as ever guys

You probably have dirty/corroded fuses- just replace , cuz sometimes they break inside and drive you crazy. Newer bikes use the Auto style fuses like in this pic. Rewiring is not too difficult head to Basscliff's for wiring diagram

Thanks for that,just looked again,there some corrosion around the sides,will clean all,and have ordered new fuses. Many thanks again ��

This is a picture of the back of a fuse box like the style you have (glass fuses and a pig tail. You shoudl remove teh back and clean it chemically. I use Naval Jelly but something similar (even Coca Cola should work but will be a little sticky). After making it bright and shiney then flow some solder into the crimps. Then spray with some contact cleaner which treats the bare brass.

The main problem with this type is that not only do the contacts get corroded, but deep inside the crimps and well. This causes heat and will melt and deform the fusebox.

Yip good advice. Going to strip it down and clean it up in the next couple of days,hope that will sort the problem. Have ordered a big box of fuses! Cheers,appreciated the pic.
