Dyna s ignition installation
I'm replacing my ignition on my 1978 Suzuki gs it's the original one and the previous owner stripped the screws. Anyways I bought a dyna s ignition to install. I'm no mechanic so bare with me. Do you need to adjust the timing and if so is it easy to accomplish?Tags: None

Yes, it is easy to accomplish. Just follow the instructions on the Dyna S.Ed

The threading in the plate that holds the contact in place. I should be getting the dyna S ignition in today.

Use vice grips on the screws or cut a slot with a dremel tool for a flat blade screwdriver. It shouldn't be overly difficult to remove those screws.Ed

From what I have read it still isn't clear. The Dyna-s comes with it's own plate, the points plate is completely replaced.http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ine=1440711157'78 GS1000E, Dyna-S ignition, Dyna Green Coils, K&N pods, Delkevic SS 4-1 exhaust, Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit, Russell SS Brake Lines, Progressive suspension, Compu-Fire series Regulator 55402 and Advmonster cree LED headlight conversion.

Yes the points plate was replaced. I removed the entire thing and installed the dyna ignition. Now according to the instructions I've attempted to get the timing right but it's not running right. I connected a test light to the white and black wires coming off the new dyna ignition and made sure the 1 and 4 coil were properly aligned and did the same with the 2 and 3 coil. I recently had the carbs tuned and its still
not running right. I can grab the exhaust on the left side facing the bike and its
hot the other three are not hot

What do you mean by "had your carburetors tuned", what exactly was done to them? They can't be adjusted unless they are on your bike and the bike is running. The VM carburetors need at least a 24 hour soak in carburetor dip completely disassembled to begin the rebuild, O-rings and gaskets replaced, floats adjusted if necessary and you will most likely have to replace the boots and O-ring that attach them to the motor. Much of anything short of that will lead to a lot of tail chasing. Your valves need to be adjusted before you start anything. Hope I didn't ruin your day but a lot of basic maintenance is necessary before you can get VM carburetors to adjust properly. There are a lot of tiny passages in them that easily get clogged up after 36 years. Spray carburetor cleaner is useless until final cleanup.http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ine=1440711157'78 GS1000E, Dyna-S ignition, Dyna Green Coils, K&N pods, Delkevic SS 4-1 exhaust, Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit, Russell SS Brake Lines, Progressive suspension, Compu-Fire series Regulator 55402 and Advmonster cree LED headlight conversion.

Did you install the rotor in the proper position on the advancer unit, that is towards the 1 and 4 pickup also did you set the timing with the advancer in the fully advanced position like the instructions explain, Also just to see if you have spark at all the plugs pull them and ground them to the head and see if they all spark the same with new plugs. Sounds to me like you have a fuel delivery problem between the carbs or something else and the carb (tune up) is all off. Long story short if the Dyna S is installed and working properly your problem lies elsewhere.Last edited by gs11ezrydr; 04-28-2015, 12:52 AM.sigpic 82 gs1100ez 1168 Wiseco,Web .348 Cams,Falicon Sprockets,Star Racing Ported Head,1mm o/s Stainless Valves,APE Springs,Bronze Guides, etc.APE Billet Tensioner,36CV Carbs,Stage 3 Dynojet,Plenum w/K&N filter,Trued,Welded,Balanced,Crank w/Katana rods & Billet left end, FBG backcut trans, VHR HD Clutch basket,APE nut,VHR High volume oil pump gears,1150 Oil cooler,V&H Megaphone header w/Competition baffle,Dyna S,Coils,Wires, etc.Other misc.mods.
