Any pressure release button on 1979 GS850G for kick starting ?
Hi everyone. Newby here. Just bought 1979 GS850g . Any reason why I can't kickstart it ? Not much compression . Is there any pressure release knob anywhere on this bike ? I have started it before with the electric starter but not much restriction on kick starter. Any help would be welcome.Tags: None

No decompression button. Maybe the kick start is just broke. A spring or washer might not be doing it's job and it doesn't engage with the gear it's supposed to. Had a Honda once that sheared the shaft but then the whole lever would fall off. Open the points cover and see at least does the crank turn when you kick it.
Welcome to the forum btw and if you haven't found it yet http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/ has lots of useful information.

As said, in neutral and no clutch. Mine kicks over with very little compression but does start it. I use it on occasion just because I can.1979 GS850G

I used to kick mine over with my hand just because you could. The kick over like butter.Rob
