so to completely rule that coil as being bad, what are the ohm specs on the primary and secondary sides? the first i think is rather obvious, but what should the secondary come out to/within?

dyna 3.0 ohm resistance specs?
so from my trouble shooting of my 650g's ignition system, i put the coils back on my kz. exact same issue as what i had in my diy ignitor thread only on #1 with 0 spark, but all of the same symptoms. since i had ordered a second set of dyna 3.0 ohm coils, i swapped both of the dyna coils that i swapped to the kz with the new dyna coils and problems all went away. now i just have to tune the kz to get rid of the exhaust pop at idle/decel. decel doesn't bother me that much since i am used to it from my old cars that were carb'd, especially the 65 f100 i had with the l240.

Ok, so the fault lay in the coil and not the HEI ignitor, directly. I wonder if the HEI module over-stressed the coil or whether the coil was on its last legs anyway and would have failed very soon no matter what system was triggering it.
I'm working with sets of old coils, but my HEI module is triggering a pair of CBR1000 coils that are a fair bit younger than the bike and never did much mileage anyway, so I'm hoping they retain reliability.---- Dave

Grimly, i'm sure any issues i'm currently having with the ignitor are self-induced. I just wish i would have swapped the coils back over to the kz sooner to verify, instead of tearing the ignitor down to chase my tail troubleshooting bad coils.
