    I need some help on a temporary fix.

    I have a 1978 Suzuki GS 750. When it was given to me it had no key and the guy jumped the solenoid to get it running. I am ready to ride it but have yet to get a new ignition with key. Is there a way I can temporarily fix this with a toggle switch until I have the spare cash for the ignition itself? If so can some one explain to me how to wire it and keep my kill switch and everything else powered as it should be. The starter button does not work and the lock is busted on the ignition but I can turn it with a screw driver.

    Yes I am still working on this project but it is good enough to ride short distances. I am just dying to get it on the road. Can anyone help please? Thank you in advance.

    You can do it all with toggle switches. The Suzuki manual has a diagram that shows which connects to what in the different switch positions.

    Even if you do have a Suzuki manual, look there anyway. There is a ton of useful information.

      @tkent02 Thank you for the link and the direction. Though not real sure what I am looking at in reference to wiring the toggle switch but will try to figure it out. I do appreciate it greatly.

        Remove the ignition switch from the bike and take it to a locksmith. Any decent locksmith can make you a key in less than 5 mins.

          Or look at the seat latch, see if there is a three-digit number. That same locksmith should be able to cut a key to that code in less than 5 minutes.

            Download the service manual for your bike. Check the wiring diagram on page 177. You need to figure out what the PO did to the ignition switch. I'd start at the plug to the switch, located in the headlight bucket. Once you know what you have, it should be easy to replace a key switch with a toggle switch. But you have to know how it's currently wired.

              Guys he is turning the barrel with a screwdriver..its FUBAR!!! Take the bottom cover off the ignition and youll see where the wires are soldered to the base. RED is the hot ( if I remember right). Use a jumper and go from the red to the other terminals till the dash lights come on. This will be the normal KEY ON position. Now hold the jumper there and try the starter button. If it cranks, take those two wires and run them to a toggle switch zip tied to the bars or something till a new switch is sourced and installed.

              My 77 750 hit the dip for the parking lot drain cover at work one day and all went dead. I had to run wires off the back up to the bars and just twist them together so I could get the bike back home after my shift. What had happened was the solder on the red wire let go and the wire fell off the back of the switch base. did a resolder and all was well again.

              Wrap the switch in tape so it doesn't arch on the bars when you attatch it !!!

                    Hey Robert, I discovered the plastic lock nut that holds my ignition switch in the cluster is cracked on my bike. Please let me know if you have a good one you're willing to get rid of.
