    Newb looking for guidance

I'm reviewing the clymer manual for my bike.

For some of the test using the ohmmeter it calls for an R1 scale.

I'm having a really hard time finding what that means online.

Could someone explain what that means, and if most standard cheap meters have this?

I know this is likely a really stupid question for most of you experienced guys. I'm still learning.

I'm having fun cleaning the bike up, but I'd like to understand how to do some basic electrical test.

    Thanks!

Guidance? get the Factory manual for your bike and drop that Clymer rag.

R1 probably means the lowest scale in Ohms. If you have an autometer it will self adjust.

If you have to manually set the range, you will find R1, R10, R100, R1000 (or R1k) and R10,000 (or R10k).

That means that you take the reading on the meter (let's say 5) and multiply it by the number on the scale.

If you are on the R1 scale, you would be reading 5 ohms. If you were on the R100 scale, it would be 500 ohms.

As posplayr mentioned, if your meter is auto-ranging (and many of them are), you will see a simple "Ohms" setting, the meter will take care of the rest.

Thank you Steve for the full explanation, and to posplayr for pointing me to the manuals.

I've found more in the service manual than that Clymer provided thus far. Super helpful!

        Thanks again guys!

I found the pages in the Clymer manual very helpful. Starting the fire pit, folded up under the patio table to keep it from tilting.... etc...
