    Signal lights as running lights?

    Hi,
I have a 82' GS850GLZ, Are the signal lights suppose to double as running lights? They don't currently turn on ,except as turn signals, but have double filament bulbs...

    Tnx!

Some did, others did not. Remove the headlight, see if both wires are connected. The marker lights would connect to a brown wire inside the headlight bucket.

Oddly, only one front signal light has a two filament 1034 light. Which lit up when connected to the brown wire. The other 3 lights only had a one wire 1073 bulb.

Check the socket on the front light to see if it has one or two terminals in it. If it has two, get another 1034 light (or an 1157) and you will have your running lights.

The rear lights will always be single filament sockets for 1073 (or 1156) bulbs.

yes then socket will tell what bulb its set up for like Steve said. I made all the signal lights running lights on my old shadow by getting a trailer light kit from Orielleys and swapping in the dual filament sockets. Wired the running side to am switched hot that went to the rear tail lights running light side.

And like Steve also said, the fonts can be wired to the extra switched brown hot wire in the bucket My theory is them more light you can have on your 6 the better..

I only have one dual socket in the front so I'll need another. Chuck I didn't quite understand how you wired the rear lights? How much wattage can I draw on the brown wire?

            Thanks

There are two types of dual element sockets..2 and 3 wires types. The two wire type use whatever the socket is screwed to as the ground. This is the type you want. One of the wires that goes to the bulb contact dics will be the turn signal and one will be the running light. Follow so far?

So, what you do is find the CONSTANT HOT that feeds the bulb in the tail light and splice a wire off it that goes to the running light side of the socket. if your on the right wire in the socket the finer wire in the bulb will be lit. The wire that normally comes off the harness that feeds the blinker will stay the turn signal wire.

So what your doing is adding the dual socket..which will ground via the signal stem just like they do now.

Youre using the same wire that the signal now is plugged into as the same blinker wire on the 2 element socket.

All youre doing is finding the normally constant hot feed wire to the tail light and making a wire from that to the running light wire in the socket. Make sense now?? The brown wire will do well for the running lights without any problem.

This socket uses whatever its screwed to as its ground...which is what the sockets in our turn signals also do.

So one of these two element wires is gonna be to the running light element in the bulb and one is gonna be the blinking element in the bulb.

This is just for show and tell..this isnt the socket our style bulbs needs..just showing a dual element socket that uses the case as the ground instead of the 3 wire type.
