Straight wire to coil........
I have a 1982 GS650G. Contemplating the coil relay mod. In the meantime is it safe to wire the coils straight from the battery for testing purposes? Positive battery terminal to orange and white wires on coils, right? I understand with electronic ignition the relay isn't needed?
Thanks!Tags: None

I wouldn't ride it like that, bench testing ok. You have no ignition switch, no kill switch and no fuse.
What voltage are you getting at the coils and the fuse ? If it's low the primary suspects are the ign switch, the kill switch. Both are easy to clean. The plug at the coil, the fuse holder. Again both are easy enough to clean up.97 R1100R

Problem would be:
- no fuse in event of a short
- would be unswitched, on all the time all the time
Does 650 have a aux terminal on the fuse block? maybe use that.http://webpages.charter.net/ddvrnr/GS850_1100_Emblems.jpg
Had 850G for 14 years. Now have GK since 2005.

Just to be clear. I disconnected the orange/white wires from the + terminals on the coils. Then I ran wires from those + coil terminals to an inline fuse and then straight to the + terminal on the battery. It's what a lot of Kawasaki guys do.Last edited by Guest; 07-08-2015, 09:00 PM.
