    R&R or Stator?

Hey guys i was riding the other day and all the sudden my bike was running like crap and suddenly died while riding.... in order to make it home i had to have the choke on full and ride like that luckily i was close to home, the bike will not run without choke on and when it idles or you give it gas it chokes down bad and then revs up or dies even with choke on.

so i put a volt meter on the battery to see what the voltage was doing and it would not go over 12.7 with bike running and kept spiking down to 1-4 voltages then shooting back up to 12 so I'm thinking it may just be the rectifier bad? any inputs and also where would be the best place to get a new rectifier keeping it pretty cheap

Looks like you do have a charging issue but the bike running like crap all of a sudden with 12.7 volts at the battery is most likely not the primary source of your problem.

As for your charging system problem, go here and do the COMPLETE Test and report back all the results:

And also just a fyi as I'm looking at the link you've sent when I have the rpms up to 3-5k voltage just drops down to 1-3

Ouch...let's hope that is just a bad R/R and not a fried stator, too.

Something wrong with the measurement of the battery. Terminal voltage on the 12V battery can't be 1-3 volts with out having a welder. 9 maybe 8 volts but then you would blow a fuse.

ok so some more input now, the bike will only run with the choke on full and while the choke is on give it some gas it will die and sputter out any ideas?

How charged is your battery? Do you have a charger available to bring the battery up to normal? That's your starting point, then do the tests. I suspect the battery is fairly drained at this point and the misfiring and needing choke is caused by defective sparking as a poorly ignition system being fed sub-par voltage will struggle to ignite a normal mixture, but will fire a rich one *up to a point*.

I guess I remember someone having something similar and it bring r/ r . I keep forgetting you have no idea what a c heap VOM might be registering under such a transient .

alright guys so after some more fiddling around with the bike i believe i found the problem, cylinder 1 head pipe is not heating up and is cold but cylinder 2 3 and 4 are all hot so i pulled the plug it got some spark but barely little so I'm thinking maybe the coil wire to 1 is loose and or needs to be cleaned up which is causing a very loud popping noise and misfiring when engine does start. any suggestion maybe coil pack is going bad? but wouldn't that cause cylinder 4 to not fire too? and also where can i buy new wires and all that match up to the bike?

The first suggestion is to do the Quick test to establish a baseline, you can go from there measuring voltage drops to the coil.
