Question: How do you know which coil HT lead goes to which cylinder (for instance on coil 1-4, which HT lead goes to cylinder 1 ) ? I had marked my old ones and it seems the longest 'molded' HT connection on coil 1-4 was for no4 cylinder. On coil 2-3, it was for cylinder 2. Is this how it goes ?

emgo coils: which HT lead goes to which cylinder
I have a question. I can do most of my maintenance work on my bike but I am not a mechanic. I decided to change my original coils on my 1979 Suzuki GS850. I had removed the old ones by the time my new EMGO coils arrived. I followed the wire coming from each points set to figure out which would be cyl 1-4 coil and which would be for cyl 2-3.

I should imagine the ignition uses wasted spark like it does on mine.
Meaning if you have the coils properly wired into the harness it does not matter which wire goes to 1 or 4 both should be fine.
Someone will chime in and correct me if I am wrong please.

Doesn't matter. If they are different lengths just go with best fit.https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9zH8w8Civs8ejBJWjdvYi1LNTg&resourcekey=0-hlJp0Yc4K_VN9g7Jyy4KQg&authuser=fussbucket_1%40msn.com&usp=drive_fs

Yep, both of the previous posters are correct.
Unless wiring on the bike has been changed, the coil on the LEFT (closer to clutch hand) will be for 1&4, the coil on the RIGHT (closer to throttle hand) will be for 2&3.
