Well just got it running , i guess its the kill switch, will the ks allow it to crank but not power the coils?

Shouldn't crank with the kill switch off.http://img633.imageshack.us/img633/811/douMvs.jpg

yea spoke too soon, back to nothing again, ran awesome tho lol, so is there a test for checking out the ignitor?

Could this be nothing more than a loose wire somewhere? Coils and other things do not heal and unheal themselves.
Do get the manual from the link I posted. There is a testing procedure for all components but I have three working ignitors and on two perfectly working meters the values say they should be dead.

yes I imagine it could. THe coil being hot may have meant nothing more than the ignition was on and loading the one coil per the position of the timing.

Anyone know if theres an alternative to replacing the igniter with a oem one? Its 700 bux for a new one and thats almost what i paid for it lol.

i think i'd start by checking the pickup coils. there should be continuity through them with low resistance. probably not to ground... am i right guys?2002 bmw r1150gs 1978 gs1000E skunk les pew 1979 gs1000L dragbike

It uses 2 seperate pickups to my understanding if one failed one would still fire one of the coils. But i could be wrong, i cant find a test procedure for the ignitor, id gladly test it if somone has the procedure and can post it.

quick update, just got to work and no start, unplugged the igniter and plugged it back in and it ran, shut it off and no start again unplugged it again and replugged it and it ran, so its either the plug or the igniter. gunna clean up the plug and ad dieelectric grease and see what happens. will report back
