Does anyone have a link to buy a new signal generator? I have a 1980 gs 850 L and want to buy a new original or aftermarket signal generator. I know a new factory one is most likely not an option, but I thought maybe ACCEL would make one, I just haven't been able to find one. Not too thrilled about buying a used one off of eBay. Any help would be appreciated thanks

What's wrong with your signal generator? Is it the two wire type, a blue and a green?

The signal generators almost never go bad. They are a very simple device and extremely robust. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase used parts if in need.

If something goes flooey, it's most likely going not going to be the signal generator -- it's going to be the igniter unit.

In that case, the simplest and cheapest option is going to be a Dyna S ignition, which replaces both the signal generator and the igniter (basically, the igniter is built into the signal generator). Many people also install Dyna coils and spark plug wires, but you can use your original coils with a Dyna if they're still working fine.


There are a few other ignition systems out there, but they're expensive. For example: http://www.c5ignitions.com/motorcycle-ignitions.html ($439, but includes coils).

There are also folks who have managed to get bikes running using inexpensive GM HEI ignition modules.

This takes some experimenting, since you're working with some unknowns regarding dwell, polarity, etc. I know it's been done with Suzukis, but I have not seen any good writeups. It's almost always easier to just drop $130 on a Dyna and go ride instead of faffing around with wires and meters.

I hooked up a known good one off of my gs 750 and bike ran great put the old one on and no spark again. Just wondering if there is a new one available

i have sold many....still have many...but...
i have never seen a bad one myself unless from crash damage.

What else could possible cause that. If it was a mechanical issue why would it work after replacing with a good one then not with a bad one?

Bad wiring connection or damaged insulator on one of the signal coils maybe. Just get a used unit and stop wondering! Try blowerbike
