    83 750e ignition lock removal w/ no key

    I'm picking up a 83 750e today that has the ignition lock is locked and no key. Anyone know if I can remove the (unscrew) lock while it is locked?

    I don't see any reason why not. I assume you want to just remove the ignition switch. An extra long allen wrench might make it easier, can't remember if it's a 5 or 6mm.

      PM Kiwicanuck Charlie. He removed mine for me. { as well as rekeying three different locks and reinstalling them in a little over an hour, couldn't believe how fast he could do it }

        I want to remove the switch so I can steer the bike up the ramp into my trailer. Don't want to have to lift this thing. Thanks guys! Since neither of you are going to give me your bikes, I guess I need to buy one. Well maybe.....?

          Just pull the the headlight or whatever is holding one of the forks ears, swing it out of the way and that should give you enough wiggle room to remove the switch. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes, better than trying lift the thing into the trailer.

            That's what I was hoping. Never looked at a 83 750 that closely. Thanks!

              I didn't realize the forks were locked. I'm not sure what that entails as I don't know what that bar locks to. I know it took David about five minutes to get mine out but the forks weren't locked. here is a link to Alpha's fiche on how the forks are mounted. Click on steering stem.

              Buy parts at a low price for your snowmobile here at Alpha Sports, we carry a LARGE variety of parts and accesories.

                  Thanks Garth! I was already looking at the parts fiches and couldn't find out exactly how it all went together. I had to look at the wiring harness, steering stem and frame to attempt to understand. Looking at my bikes it looked like I could get to the two screws. It was two 5mm cap screws and 5 minutes. I picked up the bike, stopped off at DVM and it's in my name! Total expense $300.00, Including DMV, gas and a bottle of Irish Whiskey. Thanks again!

                    Great. Glad it worked out. I think you'll really like the 750 once you clean it up. Good luck with it.
