    How does this happen?

    stator.jpg
Much to my aggravation, I discovered when I popped off the cover on my stator install that I had not received the correct stator. sigh...now goes the process of dealing with the company to get the right one.

But I wondered why and how all that black gunk gets built up on the stator like that? Everything else inside was clean an unworn so I was a little puzzled. Just wondering how this happens.
Also...there isnt any way to clean it off is there?

Age turns them colors..heat and the oil circulating around the windings does them dirty.

They look burned to me. Particularly the poles from 12 to 4 o'clock, every third winding is black. Usually a giveaway that something bad is going on in that phase.
        What r/r is fitted ?

          Shunt r/r for sure.

It is pretty obvious that 550 can burn as well as an 1100

Yep, size doesn't matter in this case.

Does look like one of the fields took most of the abuse. I'd do a good check of the electrical system and look for bad connections. I'd replace the R/R as well as the stator. I've been picking up used sh775 on ebay for around $40 delivered and haven't found a bad one yet.

I just did a quick scan; here is a brand new SH775 for $56 shipped. But I guess you have to watch out. It says "replaces SH-775"!!!!

Word to the wise. Unless you see the numbers SH-775 on the regulator is its probably not one.

              This is REAL

This does not actually show numbers and is probably FAKE

That second one does indeed look like a fake. It should be more of a dark grey, not black and the numbers should be stamped or printed on the back. I got my last one on eBay for $32 shipped, used, from a total Polaris Ranger that had 1100 miles on it.

All the ones I've purchased to date say SH775BA. I usually search for a USED Polaris Regulator from a Ranger 800. These babies are tough and can take a beating. I accidentally reversed polaritied one and it still works as original. If they are a little dirty, then so be it. They work even better when dirty.

                  Here's a few:

Looks like they're all from the same seller.

My money says it's a MOSFET shunt unit with so called ' temperature protection'. Seen a fair few like that offered as replacements for the SH775.
I wouldn't call them a fake as such . It seems Polaris have moved on and are offering this as the new standard fitment for some models.

I sent the seller a question to see what the say since they are experts and say to ask if there are any.....................

They're not a real fake, since the sellers are very crafty and sneakily salt the listing with wording both real and hidden in hypertext to show up in searches as relating to SH-775. So, I suppose they'd be 'legal' in ebay's world - caveat emptor, as they say.

An outright masquerade or two have most certainly been seen in the past year, where the fake had phony Shindengen model numbers on it, but in the wrong typeface. Those were cruddy Chinese MOSFETs that can be got from alibaba for less than a ten-spot each, and punted out on ebubble for Shindengen money if you manage to bamboozle the less tech-wary.

                              Dear dbelectrical,

What is the Shindengen part number marked on the end of the case?

                              - posplayr
                              Dear posplayr,

                              That part number is: SH775
                              Thanks, DB Electrical

                              Dear dbelectrical,

If it is a real SH775, I would recommend you post a picture of the part number. Members of the GS Resources website are warned to about vendors selling SHUNT MOSFET regulators under the pretense that they are SH775 equivalents which they are NOT.
We maintain a vendor list of cheapest prices for SH-775s and yours would be the cheapest if it is a NEW real SH-775.

                              - posplayr

If they don't change their listing to add a picture with the part number then you know.

                              Dear posplayr,

All of our parts are brand new aftermarket parts. This isn't an OEM SH775.
                              Thanks, DB Electrical
