    Connections in the headlight shell

    Happy thanksgiving to everyone. I've got a couple more questions about one of the connectors in the headlight bucket. To recap, one of the natural colored connectors broke apart on my '83 GS1100e. I've just about got everything back together but there are a few wires left and I don't know what to do with them. This is what works: gear indicator high beam indicator light battery indicator light, side stand light, headlight indicator light neutral indicator light turn signal indicator lights
    The headlight and high beam, The turn signals although the right side does not flash, The Horn stop light, This is what doesn't work: Lights for speedometer, tach, fuel and temp, oil indicator light, tail light, front brake light, the starter button, There may be an additional problem with the starter because it stopped working even when both o/w and the y/g wire were connected These are the wires I don't know what to do with. red wire with blue tracer female bullet connector, this wire runs into the main harness a single gray wire with a double female bullet connector. also into main harness two brown wires ending in a single female bullet connector one orange wire with red tag. this wire is part of the three wires that come from the starter/kill switch. it went into the plastic connector the two wires that work the front brake light, a white with red tag and an orange. these are both male bullet connectors. I think that's it. If anyone can tell me what the above wires connect to I would greatly appreciate it.

    Paragraphs and removal of the html code would make that a bit easier to read to help answer your question. However, do you have a copy of your bike's wiring diagram?

      I have the service manual which covers the '83. The wiring diagram in the manual, however, is for an '82. There seem to be some differences in wire colors between what I have and the '82. Add to that the fact that I don't know squat about electricity and I can't make sense out of some of the connections shown in the manual, I'm left stumped.
      When I typed my question I did make paragraphs. In fact I wrote it rather like an outline. Why it printed out like this and where all that extra junk came from, I don't know. I'll try and delete the html code. but I also admit I'm not that good with computers either.

          Okay, let me cut out some the unnecessary information from my original post. Can anyone tell me where these headlight shell wires connect
          1.red wire with blue tracer. Female bullet connector
          2.Single gray wire, double female connector.
          3.two brown wires, single female connector
          4.the two orange wires with white tracers, one having a red tag. These are two of the three wire bundle coming from the starter/kill switch. The other wire being yellow with a green tracer
          5.The front brake wires. One white with a red tag. The other orange and both having bullet connectors.
          If anyone can give me this information I would be go to go. Everything else, I believe is correctly connected.

            82 and. 83 gs1100e harnesses are virtually identical except the TSCU which is not in the headlamp bucket.

            Unfortunately it is hard to read the wire colors on the scanned manual. I'm looking.

              1.)(Red/Blue)R/Bl is F Brake switch and is paired with O/G (look in the kill switch area of the schematic)
              2.) The double Grey is switched 12 used for running lights left disconnected unless you have dual filament turn signals.
              Your directionals a Black(B) for Left and Light Green(Lg) Right
              3.) Brown is for open possibly for a parking light.
              4.) O/W is ignition going to the kill switch. It is convoluted and generally recommended to modify. Has someone cut wires at that connector already as there are plugs if it it is stock? best to show a picture so I can make a recommendations.
              5.) See 1.)

              Suzuki is almost 100% faithful to maintaining color coding across all models of GS except for the differences for the single fuse models.

                  Hey postplayr, thanks for responding. I really appreciate it. I couldn't have done this myself Okay this is the third time I'm typing this. By the time I finish my session has timed out and when I log in again, the post disappears. I'll try and type faster. I'll try and post some pictures tomorrow but for now I'll give you as clear a description as I can
                  I'm good with the unused gray and brown wires. I was fairly sure they remained unused.
                  I'm sure I have the turn signals wired right. They light up as they should but the right side does not flash. I don't know why that is.
                  I see now after looking at the wiring diagram again that the R/Bl wire with a female bullet connector does go to the front brake light switch. There are two unused O/G wires but neither of them ends in a male bullet connector. One is also a female bullet and the other went to the plastic connector which no longer exists
                  The three wires from the starter/kill switch; an O/W with a red tag, an O/W and a Y/G. I assume the Y/G connects to the Y/G on the harness side. How and to what do I connect the two O/W wires in order to simplify the starting circuit and also keeping in mind that when they become available, I will be buying one of your SSPB's.

                    I posted this link before, it describes the problem areas which your PO apparently "modified" but did it with bullet connectors.Since I'm guessing it is modified and you don't have a picture it is hard to help. O/G is Signal. One goes to that area. The Coil relay mods are identical to the SSPB install. You can do a Coil relay mod following the same process and if you get an SSPB it will translate over with no changes to this area of the harness.



                    Also if you rea read my previous post it says this: That would account for both of your open O/G wires. The information is there.

                    1.)(Red/Blue)R/Bl is F Brake switch and is paired with O/G (look in the kill switch area of the schematic)

                      Save yourself a lot of problems by double checking the colored diagrams against the factory black & white ones. All the colors aren't right on the 1150 diagrams. You can figure out I learned that Im sure. Listen to posplayr, he knows this electrical stuff. He has helped me out a lot in the past

                        I'll keep studying the diagram. I'm sure it will eventually start to make sense. The harness has not been modified in any way. The bike has never had a previous owner. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know when I am successful.

                          My headlamp is open and I just looked a third time.
                          The only two O/G wires are what I described before.
                          1.) One is on a Bullet for the power to the F Brake switch and the other
                          2.) is in a 9pin block connector for the handlebar.

                          If you have another O/G bullet you have the wrong color or the wrong end of the bike.

                            I don't have another O/G wire with a male bullet. In fact I don't have any O/G with a male connector. The two unused O/G wires I do have are, one with a female bullet, and one that went to the block connector I have two wires running directly from the front brake lever. One is W with a red tube and the other is O. Both these have male bullets. The only thing that I can think of is before the block connector fell apart there were two pigtails connecting I'm not sure what. One of these may have somehow connected the R/Bl on the harness side to the O/G in the block connector.
                            Am I looking at the wrong end of the bike? Gee, that's a good question. Which side has the big round spotlight thing on it?

                              Also the electrics are totally stock. They have not been modified or improved or messed with in any way.
