    GL Motor Swap, No Spark?

Hello, I have a 1983 gs850. I bought the same year motor but it is a GL I do believe.
The stator wiring is different. The old harness has 4 wires, while the new stator only has 2.
I'm wondering if this is causing me this headache... Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

All of the stators should have three wires.
Never seen a GS stator with any other number or wires.
And the stator has nothing to do with making a spark. That's the ignition system, which will run fine off the battery with no stator at all.
The stator just makes electricity to charge the battery.

He may be talking about the signal generator and calling it a stator. The older pickups used two wires while the newer ignitions used 4 wires. Just a thought.

Got it to fire, but only on 2 cylinders. The four wires that come off of my fuse box to plug into my "stator," are the problem.
When I swap them around it changes from the inside cylinders, to the outside cylinders firing. I'm not understanding what the huge issue is...

Maybe he is talking about the ignitor.

Where is this "stator" located on the bike? Can you take a picture of it?

As stated the stator has nothing to do with the ignition.
