    Help pls, How do I bypass the TSCU on a 78 1000E?

    Hey guys,

    I'm rebuilding a 78 skunk for my friend and the TSCU is fried! Sometime's it works fine, other times only the left side, and most of the time not at all.

    The left handle bar switch is stock and working fine but I'm positive the TSCU control box is toast! I've searched the forums but haven't found anything solid on how to replace it with a manual flasher relay.

    I would like to keep the stock handlebar switch but know that I will probably have to swap it out to a manual one to make life easier,

    Does anyone have an Old Technical Thread wiring diagram with pics as a guide?

      A 1978 GS1000 doesn't have a TSCU

        I've a stock bar switch and a two pin flasher relay on the old three wire plug. The tscu is removed from the bike and everything is fine.

          I used two two spade flashers and don't miss the old self canceling control unit at all. I run the signals manually and they shut off when the spring returns to the center position so I never have the flashers on when not needed.

            Yep, if it's a 1978 GS1000 then that TSCU sure is fried. Like azr stated... There is no TSCU on a 1978 GS1000. Just a hand switch and a flasher relay. Might want to verify that all the bulbs are good and all the hot and ground connections are good as well. The 2 pin flasher relay goes between the Orange/Green (Switched HOT) wire and the light blue wire.

              Sorry, it's either a 78-79 Skunk.

              Thanks for the link Steve, we used a left control switch off an L bike with the blue 9 pin connector and yellow separate wire, pigtailed the old switch connector and are running two flasher relays.

                Actually the 78 1000E in fact does have self cancelling signals and the TSCU is mounted on the right rear side of the battery box. The 78 1000C DOES NOT have self cancelling. He mentioned its a skunk so I woukld take from that he inn fact does have an E model ith a faulty TSCU box.

                  If you go for the two pin flasher the wire to avoid is the blue/black one that talks to the tcsu. You can leave it on the bike, the blinkers won't see it anymore.

                    A 78' 1000E had a self cancelling signal?? I thought for sure none of that came out till 79', well you learn something new every day.

                      I stand corrected. It does seem that the skunk 1000EN did come with auto cancel signals. Sorry for the confusion.
