Where is my oil pressure sensor?

The bike is an 82 1100E, Canadian model if it matters. As long as I have owned it (since 2004) the oil temperature gauge hasn't worked. Since it has a cooler and our weather here is not hot I never cared. Well, this year I have resolved to sort out a lot of the dash issues the bike has and get as much working correctly as I can.

Looking at my manual the wiring diagram shows the oil pressure sensor to have a green/yellow wire and the oil temperature sensor to have a pink wire. Looking at my bike, the oil temp sensor has a green/yellow wire on it and there is no pink wire in sight. See pics for details:

With the Gr/Y wire plugged into the Gr/Y on the harness my oil temp gauge tests dead and doesn't swing to 160C when the wire is grounded as it should but the oil pressure light on the dash works as expected. If I plug the Gr/Y wire into the pink wire on the harness then the temp gauge tests fine and swings to 160C as it should, but my oil pressure light doesn't come on when the key is turned on. Clearly the oil temp sensor wire has been plugged into the wrong place on the harness for the gauge to work. BUT, where the hell is my oil pressure sensor and its wire then? The manual is no help at all aside from the wiring diagram which doesn't give me location information on the sensors and wiring...

    Help!

    Thanks,

In my factory Suzuki service manual it labels this as the pressure sensor in one section, then in the supplementary section that covers the 1982 model it shows it as the oil temperature sensor. Where is the temp sensor then if that is my pressure sensor? It's not supposed to be this hard to sort a simple thing like a gauge and sensor...

I think I have it sorted now, despite the manual not helping much at all. After looking at the parts diagrams on Partzilla it appears there should be a second sensor in the same housing directly behind the oil pressure switch, which would be the oil temperature sensor. My sensor housing has no second spot for the temp sensor so I will have to buy the housing and a new temp sensor to suit.

PO's might be the most dangerous people in the world...

The green/yellow wire is definitely on the oil pressure sensor. My 79 GS1000 has the oil temp sensor immediately behind the oil temp sensor (rearward of the rear mounting bolt for the pressure sensor). It has a pink wire on it.
There is no sign of a oil temp sensor in your photo. It may be located somewhere else, or not exist at all.

What you describe is exactly what mine should have as well, but it has the oil pressure sensor housing from the 1981 model instead. Looking at it, it is possible I have an 81 model engine in an 82 model frame. Does anyone know if I can just buy the 82 model sensor housing and install it into an 81 engine? Partzilla shows one part number for the sensor housing for both years and it has the temperature sensor in it so it should work, but it is always nice to know for sure.

Just an FYI... The oil temp sensor is no longer available as new. You'll either need to pick one up used or do as the PO did and just not use it. The housings are interchangeable. If you still want it then maybe someone here has one for you or you can go on ebay and find one:

              or
              Ebay sensor 2
