    Coil Primary Wire Polarity?

Bike is an 82 GS1100E. I have coils and wires on it from a mid-90's GSXR600. The wiring diagram shows no polarity on it but the coils are marked +/-. The #1&4 coil has white and orange/white primary wires and the #2&3 coil has black/yellow and orange/white primary wires. I hooked up the orange/white wires to the '-' terminal on both coils, the others to the '+' terminal. Is that correct or backwards?

I believe the orange/white is +. Best look in your service manual or use a multi meter.

    To measure is to know.

The service manual wiring diagram has no polarity of any sort shown on it. To use the multi meter do I just turn the ignition on, then measure to ground?

The manual may not show polarity, but you will find that the orange/white wire comes from the battery (through the ignition fuse). The black and white wires go to the ignitor, which controls their connection to ground.

Yes, you can use a test light or a meter to check your polarity.

After a more thorough look at the wiring diagram last night I came to this conclusion as well. Thanks for confirming that I am not crazy on that count.

I guess the rest is still suspect (as usual)?

Yeah, I didn't want to go too far in my estimate!
