KD or ND??? I can't find it anywhere

I can't seem to find the KD or ND stamp on the ignition pick ups, plate, mechanical advance, etc. I would like to replace the faulty system with a Dyna unit but want to make absolutely sure that I get the right part. Could anyone show me a pic of theirs? Thank you!

Look on the parts fiche for your bike. The two systems have distinctly different looks, I just don't remember which is which right now, but one of them has the condensors parallel to the crank (you can only see the ends), the other has them perpendicular to the crank (you can see the entire length).

A 1980 550 shouldn't have condensers at all. I thought the thing about two brands of ignitions ended when contact breaker ignitions ended.

You thought correctly. All later bikes take the ND version.

I saw the "550", but did not take note of the "1980".

Good to know, though, that the later versions are all ND.

I also heard the mechanical advances are the same as the points versions, so I guess it's the ND points versions. Good to know.
