    Bike dies when I press brake

    Hey guys my bike dies when I press on my my brake. Even when idling. And my lights no longer work. And now the bike doesn't start up at all. Is this an r r problem? A stator problem? I hate electronics and I believe that's what it has to do with. I just ordered a sh-775 r/r but don't even know if that's the problem

    The SH-775 will come in handy after you sort out your electrical gremlins. This bike still have contact points ignition?? Was it running before, or is this a new adventure?
    the bike doesn't need a functioning charging system to start and run a while, but it needs a decently charged battery.

      Time to do so testing. Even with a bad stator and R/R, the bike should run off the battery. Of course, this will kill the battery eventually.

      My guess is that your battery isn't charging. Eventually you have so little juice, the battery can't support both the lighta and the ignition. You should check out the stator pages and run those tests.

          Also got rid of the points it has a dyno electronic ignition. I bought a brand new battery but it doesn't seem to charge right

            Ive read briefly the stator pages. But a lot went over my head. Like I said I hate electronics. The tests made me think I had to have a decent battery in to do the tests

              Yes, you need a healthy battery for all tests.

              If you have not done so yet, follow the steps outlined in this thread: Charging System QUICK TEST to narrow down where the problem is.

              Replacing the R/R is a good idea in any case.

                First of all, if your bike dies when you step on the brake you probably have a short circuit with your brake light wiring.

                Now, when you say it "doesn't start up at all" do you mean there's nothing when you hit the starter button or does the motor turn over and not fire? If it's the first you have probably blown your main fuse due to the continued effect of your short circuit in the brake light.

                And you are right about starting with a fully charged battery - get a multimeter and a battery charger. They are going to be useful things for you in the near future.

                  First thing to consider in a problem like this: if you have having some REALLY strange problems, it's probably a bad ground.

                  I am going to guess that somewhere along the line, the ignition is "grounded" to a line that happens to be the brake light feed. When you turn the brake light ON, that removes the "ground", so the ignition dies.

                    Ok I'll check all the wiring again make sure the connections are good. I checked the fuse and it's fine. And when I say doesn't start I mean that I don't think ya firing. I doubt the bTtery had enough juice for the electric start. So when I tried to kick start it it didn't fire up. And she use starts up with one kick. Actually I can usually start it with my hand

                      I usually love problems like this, wish I was closer. The solution is usually found through process of elimination.

                      I don't have a wiring diagram for your bike so these are general ideas...

                      Disconnect the front brake wiring, even the connectors inside the headlight.

                      Check all the fuses. Check the fuse contacts as any heat from a short circuit can make a poor contact connection.

                      Remove all the fuses except for the one that feeds the ignition switch and one that feeds the kill switch\ starter button.

                      See what happens and report back.

                        I won't have time to work on the bike until Monday but thanks for all the info. I know the p o did some make shift splicing before because he but a big ol touring package on
