    Fuses Blowing ... 81 GS 1000 stopping ...

Hi Folks - I THINK I have a classic rectifier problem on my 81 1000g - and when I get back from my wedding in a couple of weeks I will go through the steps in the Stator Papers thoroughly and see - however it would make me feel really good to hear your thoughts . Month ago at nite, all the lights went out - replaced the fuse and all OK. Last week the gear indicator lights and signals stopped, then started again. 2 Days later, motor will barely pull up hill, then a classic backfire, all dead. 3 fuses blown ... replaced the fuses, turn on the key multiple times, NOT start the motor, and everything works - no immediate fuse blowing, etc. So no dead short I am thinking. Rectifier going crazy, yes? Thanks to any and all - Byron

You might want to measure the charge voltage is at the battery. I'm betting that the Regulator portion of your R/R has gone out and you're overcharging.

Darn, with so many daily riders it's hard to decide which one to jump on next.;)

Congratulations on the wedding and welcome to the forum.
This if you haven't yet found it http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/
In the meantime disconnect the battery and or the r/r. If the r/r is going south you won't need it trying to fry the bike when you're gone..

Good point on disconnecting while away. I just go ahead and disconnect one of the battery terminals.
