    Disconnecting autocancel 1979 850 signals

Recently, I was troubleshooting the turn signals on my endlessly project-worthy bike.

Having cleaned all grounds and fixed various things, the turn signals blink nicely, when the bike is stationary (running or not). But as soon as it is in motion, it auto-cancels at once. (unless you hold the switch hard left or right.)

Having checked out as much of the speedometer sens wires as possible (red black, red-blue), I took the liberty or disconnecting them (at the bullet-connecters in the headlight bucket) and taping them into an un-connected bundle.

Signals now switch on perfectly, but (as I expected) do not cancel themselves. I have never been that attached to auto-cancel....

People smarter than me: Am I missing hidden dangers or down-sides by running the bike this way? Will something magically melt or fail?

They will work like that for a while. That bike shares the same system as the GS1000 and eventually just about all of them fail. I ended up rewiring it with two turn signal flashers, works always as long as you hold the switch and cancels when you release it. I've gotten so used to it I prefer it over most other systems.
