I had already established the habit of holding the front brake while starting long before I knew there was supposed to be a clutch safety. Both GSs had the safety disabled when I got them. Not that I haven't had the occasional lurch. Due to my experience one particular weekend in WV, I know it takes much more than a lurch get a warmed-up bike fired and moving with no clutch, so the occasional goof is more about comedy than danger. I'd much rather have a working side stand safety.

I tried doing the reverse swap, to get a functioning brake light out of the clutch switch. The sliders may be identical, but the contact boards were not. This was a while back, so I can't remember which bike it was. Both are '80.

The logic circuit would allow it to start and run in Neutral, but kill the engine in any other gear position. My Wing works that way. Without the logic circuit, you would have to be on the bike, basically ready to ride, before hitting the starter, with the side stand UP. For those who claim their bike is "cold-blooded" and they have to warm it up for 10 minutes before riding, that would be a real pain.

Yah, just that would take care of most of my problem.
I am also interested in the base circuit board with the two contacts and wiring leads. That part is not called out on the microfische for the clutch swtich, nor on the front brake.

Dave, I disconnected mine many years ago, but its still on the bike fully intact as far as I know. I'm not sure if it would be the same (85 1150es), but if you want it, its yours. I can take it off and check it out if you'd like.sigpic

I just bought an Ignition Switch for my "T". I've got the battery tender connected and she cranks but of course the Fuel distribution is gonna have to be addressed.

Recieved new switch.
Again, is a cheapo aftermarket that they listed for a clutch switch in ebay listing, but has same number as the front brake swtich (57460-49300).
And , again, I have not found a number for the clutch swtich.
Everything fits.
ANd the switch works properly, in that it makes contact when lever pulled in at least about half way (I checked with meter).
Then was looking at where the wiring run.... GK not having a headlight shell to cram all the connectors into.
Took off the tank, and found the connections there by the coils.
Oh... problem.....
Original swtich has one male and one female connector... and this new one has two male
Doah, now I dont know if this is beause this is really a brake swtich or because it is a cheapo swtich that is wrong. I dont think it is beacuse a GK has different swtich than others.
So, I quess I can not give a good complete answer to the question: Is clutch switch assemebly part the same as the front brake switch assembly part?
Others here have said that no it is not, because they do not work the same.
My observation of this cheapo aftermarket replacement brake switch is that it works the same and fits the same as the clutch switch, but one of the two bullet conectors is different.
I cut off one connector and crimped on a female bulet connector, and all is good now.

This does not especially apply to your year unit .I have been explained this by Suzuki factory techs. But removing or bypassing the clutch switch on the newer bikes effects how they run. Just think the motor is in 3rd gear turning 8000 rpms going 65 mph. the ECU thinks that the clutch is pulled in because you bypassed the switch so therefore the ECU changes the timing slowing the bike down because it sees an error between the clutch being pulled in at that speed and rpm. Therefore loss in performance. By passing the clutch switch on newer bikes is not recommended. Just F.Y.I. Those are nasty little switches. I've found the one on the rear brakes to be totally packed with greasy grit. Maybe it was the front. Its been a while. I can't believe that they work as long and as well as they do.
Once the choke cable on a '79 through '81 G no longer stays in place, the switch becomes a pain. Most of mine have been bypassed, but not all. Hey, lookie, right there in my picture.
Right next to the two wire labelede "bike wiring" (for the clutch switch) is two other wires, still plugged in. I think those are for the front brake swtich....
and lookie there, same orange and white/black as my "new cheapo switch", and lookie, seems to be two male connectors.
So, I it seems to me that can say that, the front brake switch assembly (57460-49300) is the same as the clutch swtich, as far a functionality of the swtich, but one of the two connetors needs to be female instead of male.
And no one has yet to come up with a part number for a clutch switch assembly.
