Just took a punt on a cheap stator

One of these from Ali-X. Listed as being for the GS125, but the measurements given in the item pics correspond exactly with two old stators on my shelf. I'll have to remove the grommet and with luck be able to re-use it further along the harness. No biggie, at all. I had spotted these before, but this seller is the first with the hole spacings measured in a pic, so it all looks fine.

If it lasts more than a couple of years, I'll be happy enough.

Nice find. Lot of daylight between the windings but at that price the copper alone is worth it

I am curious about the two extra wires.

Could the extra wires be an ignition pulse pick-up coil ?.

It will be interesting to see what its capacity / longevity is. It will likely be better than a crispy old one, anyway.

          Yep. Easily snipped out.
Not totally certain how the wiring take-off from the windings will need modified yet, but it should be do-able. If necessary, a simple solder and sleeve job with heatshrink and fibreglass tubing will do it - I had to do that before, so not really a problem.

Can't beat the price! curious to see how it works for you.... but I'd be tempted to drop a bit of epoxy putty like jbweld onto anything that looks loose or crosses over another wire. It does look loosely wound.
I've had middling luck with heat shrink. use a large size or for sure it'll continue to shrink 'til it cracks open.

Yeah, they might be "easily snipped out", but they are probably occupying space on the stator poles that should be used for CHARGING windings.
I would be concerned that there might not be enough output from that stator.

Looks like only three wires are going to the actual windings. The two extra wire go to a separate module and could easily be removed from the system.

Seem to recall something a bit more serious than solder waiting for me at the ND stator when I tacked on the new tail. Am I dreaming or were there brass screw down terminals ?

Oh, I don't think it's output will be the full equal of the GS850 winding, but on a bike with all-LED lighting and series rec/reg it might be up to the task. I intend to run this to destruction to find out. If it's up to it, I will buy another couple of them for spares.

Ah; you must have the Edwardian winding.

I'm not going back in until I have to but if my decrepit memory serves it wasn't the solder joints I was expecting to see.
