    GS 550 Dyna ignition

Hi, I have been offered a Dyna ignition and coils which are off a 4 valve model GS, I was wondering if this will fit, and work on a 2 valve GS550. I know the 3.0 ohm coils will be okay, just wondering what would need to be done to make the ignition work, Cheers

I believe they are the same, but I have never wrenched on a 4 valver, so I cannot be 110% certain.

One thing I am certain about is that the 2v dyna-s would likely work on a 4-valve but you would need the mechanical timing advancer from a 70s or early 80s model.

There were basically only two versions of the Dyna S that fit the two valves, just compare the part numbers and then look up spec for a four valve. DS3-1 & DS3-2 I believe. The only difference was in the rotor/magnet height, & it was not based on the model, but rather what brand points ignition was on the bike from the factory, as they used both Nippon Denso and Kokusan Denso. One required a taller magnet, the other required a shorter magnet
