1981 gs450t stater tests good, but only produces 24V AC at idle
I've tested my stater with my multimeter, I get 1 ohm between every connection with the 3 output wires, and none of them short to ground. However when the bike is idling it is only producing 12-24v AC and when I rev the engine the voltage drops slightly. All the magnets are intact inside the housing, and a quick glance at the stater didn't show any immediate apparent damage. Does this sound like a typical stater failure or am I missing something?Tags: None

Could be bad - it's supposed to be >60v. What voltage's do you get at the battery?
Did the stator wires look dark and grimy? The insulation could be burned up and some of them are shorting to each other.1980/1981 GS450 - GS500 Cylinder + Piston Swap - "De-L'ed", custom seat, CB350 bits, 18" rear, etc.

I haven't hooked the regulator rectifier up yet, didn't want to damage it with a bad stater. The wires definitely are not shorting out on each other or ground. I just thought it was strange that the resistance is acceptable but the output voltage is so low.
