No Brake Light

    No Brake Light

    1982 Katana 1100

    I seem to longer have a working brake light, with either the front or rear brake.

    I did have the front brake switch apart, but don't know why that would effect the rear brake light function.

    Any ideas?

        Poorly timed bulb burnout?

        If the front switch was installed so that it's "on", then you won't notice any difference when you activate the front or rear switch (and in the sun or under good lighting, you may not be able to tell the tail light is brighter than it should be). You probably need to simply adjust the front switch -- it's sort of a fiddly and touchy thing.

            Check your turn signals and your horn. Yeah, it sounds a bit silly, but they are on the same fuse.

              The wires on my 650 have been rubbed through and broken twice by the tire or debris hitting them in 36 years. The bumps and pot holes on the roads here at times are really bad.
              1981 GS 1000GLX.

                This is what it turned out to be, light was always on.

                The problem turned out to be the rear switch which I hadn't touched, coincidence I guess.
                A new spring will fix the problem.

                  If it's always on then you just need to adjust it so it's not being pulled till you push down on the pedal. Don't turn the switch itself, pop it out of the bracket and turn the part that holds it in the bracket.

                    That's it alright.
                    My spring is too short, keeps switch in on position at all time, even with shortest adjustment.
